M. Ageyev

About the Author

M. Ageyev is the pseudonym of Mark Levi (1898–1973), about whom very little is known. Born into a Jewish family in Moscow, he lived in Russia during many of the turbulent years of the early twentieth century, until, in the mid 1920s, he moved to Germany. In 1930 he moved from Germany to Turkey, where he lived for twelve years, teaching languages and working to promote anti-Fascist and Soviet literature. In 1942 he was deported, along with other Soviet nationals, from Turkey following an attempt to assassinate the German ambassador to Turkey. He lived in Armenia for the remainder of his life and died in 1973 at the age of seventy-five.
